Spiritual Focus of the Fast: Taking one extra step a day to move us toward WHOLEness.

God of wholeness, please help me to take a step a day, even an extra step a day to live a more holistic life. May these steps serve to glorify your name, bless others, and make me W.H.O.L.E.  In Jesus’ name, Amen!      
 
Best Practices for the Fast
Before the start of each week and each assignment, write down one thing that you are eliminating for that week.  Then throughout the week, or at the end of the week, journal the following:  1) how did you do with your goal; 2) what was challenging and what felt easy; 3) how can you connect one week to the next; and 4) begin the next week.

Fasting Schedule

Wednesday, February 22 through Tuesday, February 28:
Every day, wean yourself from junk food and sugary drinks until this becomes the norm as you move into the fast and hopefully beyond.
Participate in the Fasting/Prayer call on Tuesday evenings from 8:30 to 9 p.m.

Wednesday, March 1 through Tuesday, March 7:

WELL PHYSICALLY   
Starting today, and every day for the rest of the week and beyond, what one discipline will you begin that will strengthen your body? (ex. Drink more water each day)
Participate in the Fasting/Prayer call on Tuesday evenings from 8:30 to 9 pm

Wednesday, March 8 through Tuesday, March 14:
HEAL EMOTIONALLY
Starting today, and every day for the rest of the week and beyond, what one discipline will you begin that will help you heal emotionally? (ex. forgive yourself or another for something you or someone else did wrong)
Participate in the Fasting/Prayer call on Tuesday evenings from 8:30 to 9 pm

Wednesday, March 15 through Tuesday, March 21:
OBEDIENT SPIRITUALLY
Starting today, and every day for the rest of the week and beyond, what one discipline will you begin that will help you draw closer to Jesus? (ex. establish a regular, daily prayer time)
Participate in the Fasting/Prayer call on Tuesday evenings from 8:30 to 9 pm
 
Wednesday, March 22 through Tuesday, March 28:
LOVE UNCONDITIONALLY
Starting today, and every day for the rest of the week and beyond, what one discipline will you begin that will love someone without strings attached? (ex. volunteer to serve a community group or organization consistently)
Participate in the Fasting/Prayer call on Tuesday evenings from 8:30 to 9 pm

Wednesday, March 29 through Tuesday, April 4:
EMPOWER FINANCIALLY
Starting today, and every day for the rest of the week and beyond, what one discipline will you begin that will help you manage your money better? (ex. reduce the number of trips to a restaurant and invest the difference)
Participate in the Fasting/Prayer call on Tuesday evenings from 8:30 to 9 pm

Wednesday, April 5 through Saturday, April 8:
No junk food or sugary drinks; please participate in Emory’s Holy Week worship activities
